Basic stuff first... Inked with Microns. Bad scanner. (All mistakes should be blamed on it. X3) This is actually a week old, but I left it alone so I could decide whether I wanted to add any color, which I decided might detract from the crosshatching.

---

Original character, Embley, belongs to me. Dog doesn't have a name at the moment.

---

The story behind this may take a while, so bear with me. This takes place about ten years before "present day." Embley is in her early to mid teens.

Her world is similar to ours; just imagine it hundreds of years in the future after severe global cooling and many technological advances. People live in cities of interconnecting giant buildings. Farms, housing, jobs, restaurants, etc are all indoors.

If you were to leave a city and enter the wilderness without protection, you're dead. Between the cold and the beasties, it's guaranteed. There's also not much to see besides bare ground and the ruins of the old cities.

For reasons not important to the picture, Embley and a group of others are in the wilderness. She unthinkingly wander away from the group to get a closer look at the ruins and the dog, being loyal as all dogs are, follows after. (I suppose it wouldn't complication things too much if I now said that the dog is genetically engineered. Smarter and stronger. Physically similar to a great dane.)

They're attacked by some glacier beasty and have no way of getting to help. Embley is sure they're both going to die, but they get rescued at the very. last. moment. (Unfortunately, the dog doesn't survive.)

For this reason, Embley decides to get more GE dogs and train them to scent for danger. The dogs are smart enough to know what's coming and to be able to "tell" people exactly what's coming. At present, they have at least ten working dogs and one or two in training.

That's a very quick explanation, so I hope it makes sense.

Puppy!

(I like your plot ideas and think the bit with the dogs is rocksome, but still... puppy!)

There are no Pan-Asian supermarkets down in Hell, so you can't buy Golden Boy peanuts there.

I admit that the dog is my favorite part. So, I'm gonna say it with you. Puppy!
:icongreensprout:
Puppy dies??! Im not talking to you anymore.

But damn...nice crosshatching. Im glad you didnt color it. It would have been distracting. Dang...

If life's supposed to be funny, I'm still waiting for the punchline.

Fantabulous! Props for your mad micron skillz (o i be ghetto dawg holla back). The crosshatching is unbelievable :O As someone who uses microns very very frequently, I am ASTOUNDED that you can make them work so well--and also by your dedication to crosshatching such a big space.

That dog. is. STUPENDOUS. You totally captured the dog's face--that is EXACTLY the kind of look dogs give you.
Too bad he dies :(

The story sounds interesting! Are you writing it now? When can we read some, hmmmmmm? :D

I agree on the last comment. I want to read this story!
The hatching is wonderful, the story idea is great, and ... I can't wait to see more from this "series" or what-ever-you-want-to-call-it. somehow the composition of this, at first glance at the thumbnail, made me think of a hillside, kind of like the hills in northern california. and then upon closer inspection I realized it was the puppy and a person. you probably didn't intend for that effect but it's pretty nice contrast after I read the description and they're outside in the wilderness when they're two beings from an environment kept aside from the wilderness. eh. just thought I'd share that...don't know if that made any sense, but .... =P

looking forward to more from you~

I know, it kills me too. But she gives her life to save Embley. Dogs are amazing like that.

I love crosshatching. Although once I had started on that huge "black" section, I started to get tired of it quickly. But after I got a new pen, it started working really well. New pens are the greatest.

Nope, no story yet. I'm still collecting characters and ideas for it. Maybe someday... :D

THANKS!
:iconmaybesomeday:
Wow. I wish I could say that I'd done that on purpose. But, I can't...

I'm working on new stuff for this story, so stay tuned. :)
